Derbyshire County Cricket Club, representing the historic county of Derbyshire, is among the eighteen first-class county clubs in England and Wales. Established in 1870, the club initially held first-class status from 1871 to 1887. In 1895 the team was welcomed into the County Championship. The club also competed as a List A team since the inception of limited overs cricket in 1963 and as a senior Twenty20 team since 2003.
The club's home matches are held at the County Cricket Ground in Derby, formerly known as the Racecourse Ground. They have also utilised other grounds in the past, including Buxton, Chesterfield's Saltergate, Heanor, Ilkeston, Blackwell, Sheffield's Abbeydale Park, Wirksworth, and Burton upon Trent (which is technically in Staffordshire). One-day matches have been played at various locations such as Darley Dale, Repton School, Trent College, Leek, Staffordshire, and Knypersley (also in Staffordshire).
The club has experienced notable success in recent years, achieving record attendances and selling out matches in advance, particularly the local derby against Yorkshire at Chesterfield. In 2017, over 24,000 people attended their home Twenty20 fixtures, setting a new record for a single campaign.
